I think it’s so important that people realize our parents may always want the best for us but that doesn’t mean what they do is ultimately best for us. I always feel guilty whenever I criticize my parents, and of course I love them and they love me but that doesn’t mean every decision they make will ultimately work in my favour. I think in our culture we are often taught to take what elders say without question and questioning their decisions and opinions is often considered rude. And while I understand their wisdom plays a role in the decisions they make and they want the best for us, suppressing yourself and conforming to their ideals and opinions can prove to be very toxic in the long run.
